Description

A fabulously illustrated look at our place in the world - from the room we are in right out to the universe

In I Am Here, Where Are You? Ollie tells the reader where he is. Using this simple premise, Ollie starts off in the room in his house, then zooms out from this location to his road, his town, county, country, continent, planet, solar system, galaxy and finally universe.

For readers aged four and up, I Am Here, Where Are You? follows the simple structure of "This is the House that Jack Built". Photographs and gorgeous artwork by the super-funky Sarah Horne combine to give children a sense of their place in the world by zooming out from their own location. It provides a springboard for discussion of the reader's location and explores concepts of cultural diversity, extended family, time zones and conservation of the planet we all share. Finally, it invites the reader to practise writing their own address, finishing at The Universe. The book provides great support for the geography curriculum at key stages 1 and 2.

About the Author

Anita Jones (Author)
As a child, Anita loved to write her address listing the house number, the street name, the town, the county, the country, the continent, the planet, the galaxy, finishing with the Universe. This made her realise that she was in a much bigger space than the small area she could see around her. Much later in life, she was inspired to write "I am here! Where are you?" using exactly that concept. She now enjoys sharing her book during visits to bookstores, schools and libraries.

Anita has had a varied career path including teaching, project management and IT consultancy, and is now using her retirement to hone her writing skills. She is a proud founder member of a small local writers' group and believes this has helped her to develop as a writer since the group was formed in 2015. She has been married for 47 years and has three grown up children and two beautiful grandsons, Oscar and Jacob. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, travelling, singing in a local pop choir, swimming and reading.

Sarah Horne (Illustrator)
Sarah grew up in Derbyshire, mainly under a snow drift. She spent much of her childhood scampering in the nearby fields with a few goats. Then she decided to be sensible and studied Illustration at Falmouth College of Arts, graduating in 2001. She has illustrated for many different projects including an ad campaign for Kew Gardens entitled 'Plantastic Play'. She has also undertaken commission from The Guardian and The Independent newspapers. Sarah now specialises in funny, inky illustration and words for children's fiction and picture books. Sarah likes to paint on very big canvas. She loves funny detail, colour, music, dreams and big open spaces. Sarah now works from a studio on a hill in Forest Hill, London.

Praise For…

The book inspires curiosity about the world. Highly recommended.—The School Librarian

In our fast-moving world, where we have information from all around the country and around the globe coming at us all the time, it can be hard for children to relate one place to another - and that's where this book comes in... The book provides great support for the geography curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2.—Parents in Touch
