Description

Covering the current knowledge on all aspects of the biology of extant African, Malagasy, and Mascarene parrots, this book examines how research, education, and conservation actions are greatly reducing illegal trade in African parrots, though the practice remains of great concern. Themes such as the behavioral and ecological characteristics of parrots, their species characteristics, and conservation biology are developed in the book, which also reviews extinct and fossil parrots from the region. Parrots of Africa, Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands features dozens of high-quality, original photographs, and will appeal to ornithologists, conservation biologists, avian ecologists, academics, erudite bird watchers, and the informed public. Detailed distribution maps, figures, and tables are also included.
