About the Author

Barbara Pollack is a New-York-based independent curator, writer and journalist. She is the main show curator, editor, and author of the main catalogue, and a leading expert on contemporary Chinese art. She serves as consultant to the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of New Champions in China. Pollack's interest in China goes back to the late 1990s when she published ground-breaking articles on the Chinese art in Artnews, the Village Voice and Art & Auction. Since then, she has written about the Chinese art scene for Vanity Fair, the New York Times, The Washington Post, Art in America, Modern Painters, and Departures. In addition to magazine articles, Pollack has contributed catalogue essays for artists Li Songsong, Lin Tianmiao, Wang Gongxin, Chi Peng, Liu Ye and Zhang O and written profiles of leading artists Zhang Huan, Ai Weiwei, Zhang Xiaogang, Zeng Fanzhi, Yin Xiuzhen, Xu Zhen and Wang Qingsong. Several of her essays were included in the China Art Book, published by Dumont 2007. Based on her extensive research in this field, Pollack received a grant from Asian Cultural Council in 2006 and the prestigious Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation arts writers grant in 2008. Li Zhenhua is a multimedia artist, curator and founder-director of the Beijing Art Lab.
