Since 1955, the annual World Press Photo contest has set the standard in visual journalism. World Press Photo 2017 brings you the winners - the most striking images and compelling stories from 2016. Selected from over 80,000 pictures taken from 5,034 photojournalists and documentary photographers from 125 different countries, the prize-winning pictures are presented in a moving, sometimes disturbing document. World Press Photo of the Year has been awarded to Burhan Ozbilici for his documentation of the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey at an art gallery in Ankara on December 19 2016.
