INTRODUCTION
From the start of human history, there are reports of a man making use of herbals as food
and medicine. The use of botanical specimens for the treatment of diseases was given in
the world's first pharmacopeia compiled by the Chinese Scholar-Emperor Shen Nung in 2735
BC. JI The Greece and Egypt pharmacopeia included compounding and dosage requirements for
various illnesses. In the 4th century BC, Hippocrates of Greece, known as the "Father of Medicine" used
inorganic salts,
rather than botanicals, as medications.
